چکیده

Two special applications of ECE radiometry at W7-AS, for measurement of temperature fluctuations and non-thermal electron distributions, are presented. In the first case correlation-radiometry is applied. The fluctuation spectra are found to be composed of two components, a diffusive and a turbulent one, with relative levels of 0.L-2o/". The latter one is discussed in the frame of a turbulent mixing process. To investigate non-thermal electron energy distributions a vertical ECE observation geometry allowing for separation of both thermal and suprathermal populations and their time behaviour is used. Experimental results by variation of plasma parameters are shown and compared with simulated spectra.

Transport Analysis in Low-collisionality w7-AS plasmas

At W7-AS, the confinement properties are analyzed and compared mainly with neoclassical predictions for quite different conditions. Low density ECRH discharges allow access to the very long mean free path regime for electrons ( Q up to 4 keV at fl"= | 2Kt01e m-3) whereas combined NBL/ ECRH discharges at high density (7.= T/ 1 keV at fl.= I02o m-3) lead to high performance. Depending on the achi...

Changes in density fluctuations associated with confinement transitions close to a rational edge rotational transform in the W7-AS stellarator

At certain values of the edge rotational transform ιa , the confinement quality of plasmas in the Wendelstein 7-AS (W7-AS) stellarator is found to react very sensitively to small modifications of the edge rotational transform ιa . As ιa can be reproducibly changed either by external fields or by a small plasma current, these transitions offer a precise way to systematically analyse differences ...

Using the Lattice Boltzmann Method for the numerical study of non-fourier conduction with variable thermal conductivity

The lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) was used to analyze two-dimensional (2D) non-Fourier heat conduction with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity. To this end, the evolution of wave-like temperature distributions in a 2D plate was obtained. The temperature distributions along certain parts of the plate, which was subjected to heat generation and constant thermal conductivity condit...

Spatial distribution of turbulence in the Wendelstein 7-AS stellarator

In this paper measurements of short wavelength electron density fluctuations using collective scattering of infrared light are presented. The Wendelstein 7-AS (W7-AS) stellarator (Renner H et al 1989 Plasma Phys. Control. Fusion 31 1579) and the diagnostic are briefly described. A series of plasma discharges with reproducible confinement transitions was created by ramping up the plasma current....

dc probe detection of phased EEDFs in RF discharges

Detection of non-Maxwellian electron energy distribution functions (EEDFs) by Langmuir probes in the presence of radiofrequency (RF) fluctuations in the plasma potential is possible if the probe is properly RF compensated. If the non-thermal electrons are created by wave acceleration, however, they usually are bunched at one phase of the RF. In this case, the usual method of forcing the probe t...
